“You’re as beautiful as the day I lost you.” [Film Review: Train your dragon 2]

“You’re as beautiful as the day I lost you.” What an unexpected reaction from Stoick the Vast!

Toothless is still there, the Night Fury breeding with the most powerful laser-like shots that contest all evils. Hiccup now has grown up to become a teenager – the Son Dragon Master who is mapping the world to truly understand what his heart is looking for. Stoick, now The Father Dragon Master who fails to convince his son to be a great chieftain. Dragon 2 introduces two strong appearances: The Dark Dragon Master who never ceases to enslave all dragons for his kingdom ruling and a secret Masked Dragon Master who is able to win any dragons’ heart and mind.

Dragon 2 goes beyond the basic meaning of a training camp for dragon masters but pictures its own complex sky that can be compared to Avatar’s Pandora to some extent. It is a weaving of all common human themes and depicts a distinctive world of each main character.

The most memorable scene is the lovely dance involving the Father Master and the Masked Master. Soundtrack, listen carefully for the whistle. Touching, right?

Maybe I’ll have this sung on my wedding anniversary as suggested by one Youtuber 🙂

(Sidenote: Erit’s voice acting performed by Kit Harrington – John Snow in Game of Thrones. I recognized his accent immediately, an Eastern European?)

Score: 9/10
